My faith in humanity restored – for a little while anyway

October 28th, 2008 · No Comments

I have been meaning to blog this for the past couple days and life has gotten in the way. I had the most amazing experience the other day. Now once many of you read this you will probably think, “Who is this guy and that is not that amazing.” Well it helped me remember that I am part of a grander scheme in this world and that people really do look out for others still today.

Let me start by saying the last couple days at work have been amazing. I have had a lot of fun doing what I am doing, but it has also been stressful and busy. I have been getting ready for a product presentation that one of our lead sales people is doing for a big box home improvement store. If all goes well it could mean we move a lot of product pretty fast through theses stores.

Last Friday I was on my way to a vendors to get some large format prints made for this presentation, but first needed to stop at the atm for some cash. After placing the order for the prints I went to the local coffee house and worked until the prints were ready. It was a great day to sit in the window and work on the laptop. I was actually very productive. When the prints were ready I went to pull out my atm card to pay for them (I pay now and the I get reimbursed from my company) only to find out that I did not have my atm card. Luckily I had withdrawn enough cash that morning to cover the cost of the prints.

I called my wife after walking out of the vendors and was in the process of asking her to call the bank and order me a new card when she stopped me mid sentence and informed me that a lady had been behind me at the atm and pulled my card out for me. This woman then proceeded to look me up in the phone book and call to say she had my card. She said she had tried to flag me down, but I kept driving. Probably because my mind was already on the next task at hand.

This woman said she had my card and gave me directions to her house to pick it up. Needless to say I was still thinking we would have to cancel the card due to online fraud. The woman met me at her door when I pulled into her driveway and it ended up I knew her from a previous job. She was one of my regulars at the coffee house. As she looked at me she said, “Well now I know you. I guess God put me in your path for a reason today.”

Yes, God did put her in my path and she showed me that people still are kind and caring. Many are not out there to win anyway possible. Many are out there trying to do the best they can and if they can help others in the process they do.

Thank you to Cheryl and her kindness that made my week and helped me to look for the opportunities to help others that I may come across in my daily paths.
